ever：at any time. 曾经。
unfortunately：I'm sorry to say. 很遗憾。
cuddle：to hold in a gentle, loving way. 爱抚地拥抱。
pet：an animal that one usually keeps at home. 宠物。
pal：a close friend. 好友，伙伴。
man's best friend：人类最好的朋友。 This phrase means that a dog can be a person's closest companion. 这一句是指狗可以成为一个人最亲密的伙伴。
adult：a person twenty-one years of age or older. （二十一岁以上的）成年人。
be back：回来。
order dinner：要菜，点菜。
folks：people. 伙伴，朋友，诸位。 This is a friendly, informal word. 这是在非正式场合，表示友好的称呼，很口语化。在这句话里，侍者实际的意思是：二位，点什么菜（可以点菜了吗）？侍者与他们是同龄人，都是年轻人，这样称呼显得亲切，要是随便称有身份的人或年长者为folks，就不礼貌了。
chef's salad：a large salad, usually with lettuce, tomato, turkey, ham, and cheese. 主厨色拉：常包含莴苣、西红柿、火鸡、火腿和奶酪。

raw：not cooked. 生的，未煮的。

Stewart residence = This is the home of the Stewarts. Stewart 公馆，Stewart 宅邸。 This is a formal way to answer the telephone. 这是打电话时的正式用语。
This is he. = This is Robbis Stewart. 我就是。This is her or This is she is a frequent response when a caller asks to speak to the person who answers the telephone. 当电话里要找的人就是接电话者时，常用This is he或This is she来回答，另一种说法是“Speaking”。此处请注意中英文表达上的差异。中文说：我就是Stewart，英文不能说I am Stewart，而说This is he。因为双方只能听见彼此的声音，看不见对方，故不用I。
