    【语言点精讲】

  • exhausted:very tired. 筋疲力尽的,很累的。
  • advanced:more difficult. 高级的,高难度的。 例如:John goes to an advanced class in French。
  • instructor:a  person who teaches you something.教员,教练。
  • nonstop:without stopping. 连续不停地。
  • teases:makes fun of. 取笑,跟……逗趣儿。
  • lift weights:举重。
  • No problem. =It's easy. 没问题,小事一桩。
  • aerobics:exercises for good breathing and a strong heart. 健身操,健美操,韵律操。
  • different than:The better form is different from. Like Marilyn, some Americans use than after the word different. 用 different from更规范,但有些美国人跟Marilyn一样,在different之后使用than。
  • I could…=It is possible for me to…我可以……。Richard说这话的意思是,假如有机会一试的话,即可证明我的能力。
  • work out:to  exercise. 锻炼,尤指健身、健美训练。例如:She works out in a dancing class three hours a week.
  • without a doubt:sure; of course. 当然,毫无问题。
  • It's a snap. This expression means“It's easy. ”
  • Aren't you going to the aerobics class this morning?今天上午你不是要去上健身课么?
  • No sweat. 不成问题,一点儿不费劲。
  • kidding:joking with. 开玩笑,取笑。 Richard说:“Are you kidding me?”的意思是:“你真是开玩笑?”。
  • a plece of cake:easy. 不费吹灰之力。
  • You want to bet?= Do you want to bet? 你想打赌?bet(verb):to agree to pay or do something, as in a game. 打赌(动词)。 In Do you… questions, it is common not to say Do. Also, Richard pronounces want to as wanna. This is a common informal pronunciation. 在 Do you…这种句型中,不说Do的情形很普遍。Richard在说 want to时,把发音连成 wanna,这是非正式场合口语中常用的发音。
  • bet(noun):an agreement between two persons to pay or do something if one person is wrong.赌(名词)。此时的Marilyn胸有成竹地接受挑战,说:“Yeah, What's the bet?”,意思是赌就赌,你说赌什么吧?
  • I can go…=I can exercise…此处 go指“锻炼”。注意发音:I can [读k+n] go,当 can后面跟动词时,我们常不必重读它,这句正是如此。
  • entire:whole. 整个,全部。
  • call:to telephone. 给……打电话
  • right now:immediately. 立刻,马上。
  • Well, it's eight twenty now. 这里的 Well表示说话人的犹豫。Richard推说现在已是8点20分了,是想好歹赖过这一次。
  • It only takes…= You only need…Marilyn不依不饶,对Richard说骑车到健身中心只需8分钟。例如:It will take him several weeks to finish the work。
  • Davis Aerobics Center for Good Health. = This is…Health. 这里是Davis健身训练中心。
  • Jack Davis, please. =May I speak to Jack Davis, please. 请问 Jack Davis在不在?
  • My wife… is a member of your program. 我妻子……是您班上的一名学员。
  • Oh, fine, fine. 哦,好哇,好哇。
  • complete:to fill out. 填写。
  • forms:pieces of paper with questions on it. 表格。
  • on my way over:leaving for a place. (我)这就过来。
  • hangs up:挂断电话。
  • set:arranged. 安排妥当。
  • And that includes Susan. 把 Susan也算上。 Susan是Richard的妹妹,她没跟父母住在一起,她自己的住处在位于Manhattan的一幢公寓楼里。
  • Don't you forget. 你自己别忘喽。Marilyn把 you 念重,意在让Richard明白,他一定会输的
